Country Farmhouse Cozy Christmas Decorating
Posted by Eva DeCosta on 24th Oct 2022
There’s no place like home for the holidays. The familiar surroundings and special decorating touches we’ve known throughout our childhood is what makes the holidays special.
Welcome your family and friends with some updates to the the familiar by adding just a few loving touches to each room.
No matter what your idea of country is, there's something special about weaving a rustic aesthetic feel into your country holiday home decorations. Christmas is the best time to showcase this popular style. Whether you go simple or all out, here are some ideas to make your home the coziest for the holiday and winter season.
THE TREE
The tree is the centerpiece of the home. There is nothing more special than bringing out those ornaments made by children and reminiscing over each one of them every year.
This year, instead of topping the tree with the old star, add a Buffalo Check ribbon tree topper for that perfect farmhouse tree.
We love the layers of this one from CaryTreasures on Etsy
Of course, if the colors aren't just right, it's always fun to create your own. For a tutorial to make your own unique bow tree topper visit Keeping it Simple Crafts.
It's also always fun to add a few new ornaments to the tree. This year Gloria Duchin has added collecitions of like ornaments to make it easier. For this country theme I've selected the
Another one I love is the Vintage Christmas Collection
Now if you're starting your tree from scratch this year and want an entire country check look, click on the photo below to visit design dazzle and recreate this adorable look for your home.
I'm seriously in LOVE with this adorable Christmas tree display that Toni calls "Mrs Claus Cottage Christmas Tree"
THE FRONT DOOR
The rest of the house needs some love as well. The first thing your guests will see is your front door.
Instead of the traditional wreath, we love this pine cone cluster you can make yourself. All you need are pinecones, a glue gun and ribbon of choice. Visit RedLeaf Style for step by step instructions.
THE STAIRCASE - If you have one in your home, it must be decorated or it just isn't Christmas...
Purchase artificial pre decorated garland and add a layer of ribbon to make it your own.
This one from Amazon has the feel we are looking for in country decorating. Adding some fresh garland to pre decorated garland adds warmth and a wonderful pine smell to house.
Or, why not do the whole thing from scratch. For inspiration and a tutorial to make this beautiful garland visit Attagirlsays.
THE FIREPLACE MANTEL– Another focal point of the home.
The room with the fireplace is probably the coziest room in the house all year long, but especially at Christmas. The mantel deserves special attention. Whether you go with all one aesthetic design throughout the house or each room is a unique design, dress up the mantel with lots of garland and decorations to wow your guests.
This mantel has a true country feel. The burlap bows add the finishing touch.
Shop Hobby Lobby or Amazon for similar pieces.
THE GUEST BEDROOM – Your guests will feel welcomed and cozy in a room decorated just for them.
Add some rustic signs, garland on the bed headboard, a small tree with warm white lighting, and be sure to leave a woven basket with some extra blankets for those extra chilly nights.

Christmas has always been a favorite holiday for me. I love decorating and love to search the web for new ideas, always holding on to my old traditions. Understanding that sometimes, the holidays can be a sad time, I think it helps to add a few touches, maybe a small tree with some lights and some real garland to a mantel or staircase to add warmth to the home. You will feel better as you curl up to read a good book and look around your cozy home.
